Watch: Former EC Chairperson, Dr Afari Gyan explains why the NDC can’t accept the 2020 presidential results

Former Boss of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan has explained why the NDC can’t accept the results of the 2020 presidential election.

It’s been a week since the electoral commission of Ghana announced the results of the 2020 elections; but the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) says they are not going to accept the results as they are still piling evidences to prove the elections was rigged.

The party has organized a series of press conferences to announce their stand. At one of the conferences they even told their members to rise and protect their votes; this triggered a sequence of protests from the members.

Well, with all these brouhaha ongoing, the former chairman of the electoral commission, Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan has made the reason simple.

According to Afari-Gyan, some of the parties took huge sum of money from some stakeholders and individuals; with the promise that when they win they will compensate them with more than that.

And after losing, they have to get someone to blame or some means to shift the blame. so they have to exhibit some behavior which indicates that the electoral commission cheated them or rigged the election; these ‘tricks’ will supposedly help calm the temper of the individuals or companies who invested in their campaigns.

Dr. Afari-Gyan further explained that, he doesn’t understand why people or parties who know clearly that they won’t win an election; go about taking money and making promises that they will pay back after winning. He said, it is obvious you won’t win so why do you do that?

This was an answer to a question posed at him as to why the NDC is reluctant to go to court.
