Ghanaian dancehall sensation, Stonebwoy has finally reacted to the song theft allegations leveled against his collaborator, Mr Drew.
For some days now, Ghanaian media has been flooded with news about how Mr Drew; who is promoting his new single, “EAT’ featuring Stonebwoy, had his music video taken down by YouTube after over 150,000 views.
The budding singer, Mr Drew has been accused of stealing American singer, Rotimi’s song.
One Ghanaian guy had deliberately reported to Rotimi, the original owner of the song ‘Love Riddim’; that his song had been sampled and remastered to produce ‘Eat’.
However, Mr. Drew and his management have cleared the air that the song is just a cover of the original; but their copyright acknowledgement didn’t go well as they planned leading to all these brouhaha.
Unfortunately for Stonebwoy, he collaborated with Mr. Drew to sing ‘eat’; making it possible for some individuals to drag his name into the whole ‘drama’.
But the multi-ward winner is trying everything possible for his name to be left out.
Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Stonebwoy said he had requested to be featured on the song because it was good but he later found out, through his brother’ that ‘Eat’ sounded exactly like Rotimi’s song, ‘Love Riddim’.
“I reached out to him on Instagram and he said it was a cover. Then, I said ‘if it is cover just do what you have to do because people do covers’,” he narrated to Andy Dosty, host of the show.
According to him, his verse was completely original and expected Mr. Drew and his team leave him out of the copyright issues.
“If trouble had come i think the best thing for them to do is reiterate the love that I have shown them…it is not my business to come and clear your song and make sure things are done right,” he added.
