Ghanaian football legend, Stephen Appiah, was overcome with emotions as he recollects how he allowed his son, Rodney quit school to pursue his passion for football.
Rodney Appiah who joined Accra Great Olympics in the second transfer window made his GPL debut appearance with the Dade Boys in their game against Liberty Professionals.
The former Black Stars captain disclosed that though it was a tough decision; he had to support his son’s decision to quit school to concentrate on football.
Furthermore, he said he didn’t support his son’s decision at first but after he spoke to his wife, they decided to grant Rodney’s wish.
In an interview on TV3’s WarmUp Plus, Stephen Appiah added that; he is proud of his son and his decision to quit school to become a professional footballer.
“Taking that decision wasn’t easy and when you become a father, you’ll know how it means,” he said.

During the course of the interview, he was asked how proud he is knowing his son wants to exceed his records as a former footballer, Appiah was overwhelmed with emotions as he recollects moments with his son.
”When he said he wants to be better than me I was happy because there’s no way that I want to be better than my children. Never! I’ve done mine, he’s coming. So, the mindset of being better than me is fantastic”
