A 45-year-old farmer at Twifu Mampong in the Twifo Atimokwa District of the Central Region has been arrested for butchering his mother.
The suspect who is identified as Kennedy Kwaku Adu after blaming his biological mother for his sterility due to his inability to get his wife pregnant attacked her with a cutlass and left deep wounds on her body.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Addai Boateng, the Twifo Praso District Commander confirmed the incident and the arrest to the Ghana News Agency.
He said Kwaku Adu and his wife Mrs. Gifty Adu are without a child after been married for years.
Due to their inability to produce a child, there is no peace in the family house where the couple, the mother and the suspect’s younger brother live.
According to the District Commander, the suspect returned home on the night of the incident intoxicated. And started hurling insults at his mother and later inflicted the deep cutlass wounds on her.
He said the mother is currently struggling for her life at the Twifu Praso Government Hospital. The suspect who was also injured when his younger brother tried to separate the scuffle, is also receiving treatment at the same hospital.
DSP Boateng said investigations is ongoing and the suspect will soon be arraigned before court.
