Lassa Fever: Nigeria’s death toll is now 176 amid coronavirus outbreak

The death toll from the Lassa fever outbreak in Nigeria has risen to 176 and recorded 932 cases.

This was revealed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Thursday, March 26, 2020.

Nigeria is currently dealing with its largest Lassa fever outbreak. The death toll records some are health workers.

The nation has been battling Lassa fever for about 50 years.

It is diagnosed all year round but spikes during the dry season.

States like Enugu, Abia, Bauchi, Ebonyi, Edo, FCT, Taraba, Benue, Kogi, Plateau and Gombe have recorded new cases in the past week.

Currently, 27 states have recorded at least one confirmed case across 125 local government areas and are mostly from Ebonyi, Edo and Ondo.

Just like the coronavirus, there is no vaccine to prevent the spread of this disease.
