Gospel musician Patience Nyarko has revealed that her colleague musician Joe Mettle does not deserve the huge accolades he’s receiving because most of his songs are sampled from old Pentecost and Methodist songs.
Patience shockingly revealed this during a discussion on Onua FM with Christian Agyei Frimpong on Saturday May 15,2020, about language barrier being part of the reason for the unattractiveness of Ghanaian gospel music on the international scene.
In the course of the discussion, event and music promoter, Alordia, said one of the reasons why Joe Mettle is more marketable internationally is the use of English language in his songs and the strong brand he has built for himself.
However, the ‘menwu’ hitmaker had a different opinion saying even though Joe Mettle has been branded as the most desired gospel act in Ghana at the moment, she thinks he has not gotten there yet.
“Joe Mettle has not gotten to where he’s being placed by the public. The way people are lifting him up there, he’s not gotten there yet,” she said.
According to Patience, Joe Mettle does not write most of his songs.
“How many English songs does Joe Mettle have? Is it not Pentecost and Methodist songs that he sings? If these churches decide to stop people from singing their songs, what would be the fate of Joe Mettle?” she asked.
She added that Joe Mettle is not the only Ghanaian gospel musician being recognized internationally.
