Death toll increases to 40 as 3 more people die from Cerebrospinal Meningitis in the Upper West Region

The total number of confirmed cases of Cerebrospinal Meningitis have shot up from 247 to 258.

Unfortunately, it is reported that three more people have died from the disease. 

Dr Hafiz Bin Salih, the Upper West Regional Minister, disclosed this at a press conference in Wa. 

“The case fatality rate of meningitis in the region is 15.5 % which is unacceptable.

“About 80% of the death is as a result of delay in reporting to the health facilities,” the Minister commented.

He also stated that the region has over 9,000 vials of ceftrizone and five packs of pastorex to treat the disease.

He has therefore urged people infected with the deadly disease to report to health facilities whenever one begins experiencing headache, fever and stiffness for immediate attention than resorting to self-medication. 

Furthermore, he reassured the people that there drugs available are enough to help manage and treat meningitis cases. 

Sadly, Dr. Bin Salih, pointed out that there is no vaccine worldwide for sero-type X which is currently affecting the people.

He announced that a team of experts will be in the region to help manage the situation in a few days from now.
