Coronavirus : Ghana’s Third Presidential Update – All Borders Would be Closed on Sunday by Midnight

The President of Ghana, H.E. Nana Akufo-Addo addressed the nation today, Saturday 21, March 2020 at 21:00 GMT on the nation’s measures against the coronavirus as we record 18 cases currently.

He stated that eight (8) out of the 18 patients who tested positive for the virus are being treated at home under self-isolation. He then mentioned that the Ministry of Health is currently recruiting new and old health professionals to augment the current situation as a preparatory measure.

Furthermore, all borders; land, sea and air will be closed on Sunday, 22 March, 2020 at midnight for two(2) weeks. All persons who arrive at the borders before this said time will undergo the mandatory quarantine. This closure however does not apply to cargo, goods and other supplies.

In addition, 50,000 test kits for the corona virus he stated will arrive soon.

He emphasised that we all as citizens require strict self-discipline so as to abide by the prescribed social distancing protocol and further pleaded that each one of us should comply with these measures.

Also, in conjunction with all religious leaders, the President declared Wednesday, 25 March, 2020 as a National Day of Fasting and Prayers.
