Former World Bantamweight champion of Ghanaian descents, Alfred Kotey has passed on. The former boxer affectionately referred as ‘Cobra’ reportedly d!ed yesterday, Tuesday, June 30, 2020, in Bronx, New York after battling with sickness.
The 52-years old boxer became popular when he defeated Puerto Rican Rafael Del Valle in London on July 30, 1994, to become Ghana’s first WBO champion and the country’s 5th world champion.
Alfred Kotey was born on 3 June 1968 in Bukom, Accra, Ghana. Kotey was Ghana’s representative at the 1988 Summer Olympics and bagged the WBO Bantamweight Championship.
Since his demise, the sports world have sent their condolences to the family of the former world champion.
